In Guardia In Birgu

The in Guardia parade which takes place in Birgu every month of the year except August has over the years gained more and more popularity, not only amongst tourists but also from locals visiting from other neighbouring towns. Birgu (for the locals) is today referred to as Vittoriosa.

This show is a historical re-enactment of a 16th century event that depicts the inspection of Birgu's fort and garrison by the bailff in charge of the military of the Knights of the Order of St John. During this parade, some 50+ actors demonstrate their ability in military exercises and moves and are dressed up in typical uniforms of the time. The shows last approximately 45 minutes and takes place at the St John's Cavalier, Couvre Porte in Vittoriosa, commencing at 1100hrs.

The entrance fee is EUR 7 for Adults and EUR 3 for Children & Students.

Birgu is also a great town to visit, besides its fortifications, the town enjoys numerous stepped alleys, which are typical to the 3 cities found on this side of the Island. Alleys are beautifully decorated with fllowers and low street lighting in the evening. The town also enjoys a few churches which are all worth a visit, alternatively one may stroll down to the waterfront and super yacht marina which is lined up with a number of outdoor restaurants and cafes offering a wide variety of culinary delicacies.
