| The national
airline, Air Malta is the Maltese Island National airline, and operates
scheduled flights to Malta with alongside an internal flight service to
Gozo
by helicopter through its subsidiary Malta Aircharter. Other Mayjor airlines
like British Airways, Alitalia and Lufthansa operate direct flights to
Malta. Malta`s Airport is located in Luqa and the Gozo Heliport is located in
Xewkija.
There is a ferry service to Gozo almost every 30 minutes.
From
Sicily there is a high speed catamaran service from southern Sicily (Cataina
& Pozzallo) to Malta (Valletta) |

Malta is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1) the
same as Rome and Paris.,
From late March, clocks are put forward an additional
1 hour from 1st April to late September to GMT+2 hrs. |

The monetary unit of Malta is the Maltese Lira which is
often abbreviated as LM or MTL. Approximatelly 2. 55 to 2.66 Euros per 1Lira
or 2.35 to 2. 69 USD per 1 Maltese Lira.
The Maltese Lira is divided into 100cents (c). The
largest Note is the LM20 note ,followed by the LM 10 note, the LM5 note and
the LM 2 note. The LM1 is the largest coin followed by the 50c coin, 25c
,10c ,5c,2c and 1c.
On arrival at the Malta International Airport,
there are 2 Banks open 24 hours a day, with ATM service and a foreign
exchange service 24/7.
Almost all mayjor currencies are accepted here mostly
in Banks and Bureau de changes and some shops ; most popular is the English
Pound, Us Dollar, Euro. Other Western European currencies are accepted.
Travellers cheques are widelly accepted alongside the presentation of a
passport. Credit Cards are also widelly accepted in almost all outlets ;
Cards accepted in order of preference by local shops and banks are the VISA,
Mastercard, Cirrus, Maestro and American Express. The american express is
not as widelly accepted ,so do not rely entirely on it. |
