C O M I N O & THE BLUE LAGOON

Getting away from it all. Anyone who loves the sea and water sports, loves Comino. This tiny island is given over to swimming, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing and dreaming in the sun. The waters are crystal clear with safe bathing for even the youngest children. The superb Blue Lagoon is not only excellent for swimming but also one of the most wonderful sights of the Maltese Islands.

Comino's total area measures about 2.5sq.kms (Map of Comino)and has only eight permanent residents.

There is no traffic, no noise, and for most of the year its rock landscape is covered with wild flowers and thyme. There is a modern hotel dedicated to everything Comino has to offer and a resident policeman and a parish priest to look after the island's welfare. Standing guard is a watch tower built in the 17th century by Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt to protect the channel separating Malta and Gozo and to keep the harbors on this coast free of corsairs.

Comino has 3 little sandy beaches and is surrounded by glorious ultramarine waters. The waters of the Blue Lagoon, between Comino and Cominetto, are irresistible- especially if you get here early in the day, before the cruisers and yachts arrive from Malta. The seabed here is covered with sand which reflects the sunlight so that the waters take on a glorious turquoise hue.

The two ferries that transport passengers from Malta and Gozo to Comino leave from Mgarr (Gozo) and Cirkewwa (Malta) as well as other Chartered Yachts from other parts of the island. During the summer months regular sea connections link Comino with Mgarr, Gozo, and Cirkewwa in Malta
