Gnejna beach

Gnejna Bay situated on the north west of the island has several very impressive views on the way there and when you get there.

Gnejna pronounced "j-nay na" is approached through the village of Mgarr with its surrounding fields in which, whatever the season , farmers seem to be working.

Behind the silver domed parish church dedicated to the Virgin Mary , the crooked road leads to a steep uphill, then down, minutes away, to the beach. The car park touches the sands.

The 46 Bus route goes only as far as Mgarr; the walk is about 15 minutes and hitching is acceptable.

Gnejnas sand is mixed with shingle with to the right a short stretch of smooth white rock. On the left of the  bay are beach facilities- in this instance, only cold drinks and packet snacks are sold from mobile Kiosks.

Once you arrive at the beach for a small adventure you can go further along the coast on foot eastwards towards the clay slopes.
