There is a blend of mostly old and some new furnishing throughout that generally have a country style overall look. The Tower: The Tower from which the house , and indeed the street, takes its name, was built in 1726 by a knght of the Grand Cross , - D. Orpheus di Vincenzo, as " a place of pleasure and entertainment. " For a long time the property was referred to as Torro of England because it was owned by the England family. William England was a midshipman in the Royal navy who settled in Malta during the reign of the Grand Master de Rohan (1775- 1797) It was also used as a watch tower against sea borne and latterly airborne intruders. It was damaged by a Stuka bomber in 1942 and has never been restored to its original height. A detachment of the 74th regiment was billeted in the grounds prior to the invasions of Sicily and Italy. The Tower has another bedroom kitchenette and bathroom that can be used as the 5th bedroom .The "Self Contained accommodation" at the foot of the tower was built and restored circa 1980.

Shopping
Recommended by property owner Shopping Bread from "Alfred" just around the corner is a must,- usually ready about 11am but he will leave it hanging on his door if you are out for the day. The unleavened bread is wonderful. There are several small grocery shops in the village. There is a fruit and vegetable stand in the village square near the church with variable produce. The best fruit stalls are found on the roadside as you drive around the island. Bottled water is recommended as an alternative to the main supply of water. You can buy them in six packs from any store, mini market or supermarket. There is a good chemist in the village with most preparations that you can buy in the UK. For a "big shop" it is worth going to nearby towns or the "Price Club Supermarket chain" spread around the island. There is also a bank in the village. Getting to the Airport is easy and fast - only 10 mins by car or less. Shopping for gifts is best in Valletta (15 to 20 mins max by car) In Ta Qali - a craft village ,you can also buy some maltese crafts and watch them as they are done. Public Transport: No future in walking very far from the villa. Buses are very cheap and friendly and part of the Maltese culture. Many villagers still cross themselves when they get on which doesn't inspire much confidence. They leave the Church square regularly every hour and go to Valletta. If you want to go anywhere else you have to go to Valletta first and then get on a different bus. Sunbathing and Swimming. Besides the swimming pool, adults and swimmers can swim and snorkel off rocks at Ghar Lapsi or Peters Pool ( 10 and 15 minutes by car respectively) for a sandy beach you need to plan an "outing to the North of the Island to Golden bay or Mellieha. Sightseeing: Consult the guide books (usually plenty lying around at the villa. The Malta Experience provides an interesting "potted history" On Gozo visit the Oldest free standing stone temples in the world (Ggantija Temples) and the Stations of the Cross at "Ta Pinu" Church are fascinating Eating out Lots of places in Valletta and Sliema catering for tourists. "The Medina Restaurant" in Mdina-(the Silent City) Dine in a Romantic courtyard. Afterwards take a walk on the ramparts of this city and see Malta at night. "Bacchus" in Mdina is also recommended IS -Sajjied in Marsaxlokk (15 mins by car) for good Sea food. How to get to Malta: By plane to Malta International Airport
