Property Description:- This beautifully converted Gozo farmhouse rental is situated on the outskirts of the village of Gharb ,pronounced as "arb". The villa is available for private self catering holiday rentals in malta / gozo. The main entrance faces onto a small square, which allows for ample car parking space. On entering the house you walk through a large vaulted hallway, which leads on to a pretty central courtyard. Off the courtyard there is a large kitchen/dining-room which has all the modern amenities. The sitting room also leads off the central courtyard via an arched hallway. Both the kitchen/dining room and sitting room have independent and direct access to a beautiful large private garden, which offers ample space for entertaining and barbecues prepared on the large gas barbecue. The mature palm trees form a wonderful canopy create shade during the summer months, which is perfect for eating out. A round wooden table outdoors can seat 12 people comfortably and a smaller table seats a small group perfectly while looking towards the pool. The private swimming pool is a recent addition to the house and is a good size 28ft by 15ft. This spacious area is beautifully designed (inspired from the malta villa owners Travels to Thailand) and enjoys panoramic views of the sea looking toward the chapel of San Dimitri. The house is a two-minute walk from the local grocery store and close to several restaurants in the area. It is also a very close to the main church and square. | Area/Locality Description: | Gharb means West and this typical old Gozitan village unsurprisingly lies in the West of the Island. It started life as a small hamlet centuries ago. You can see its ancient roots in the centre of the village where some houses have fine example of decorated stone balconies. Gharb was created a parish in 1679, a move which gave impetus for the building of a new, baroque parish church. Built between 1699 and 1729, it has an elegant facade which has been compared with Borromini's S. Agnese in Piazza Navona, Rome. This version is naturally a simpler interpretation of the style. The village square, so quintessentially Gozitan, has become the view on many a postcard.On the square is a fascinating folklore museum housing all sorts of memorabilia retelling the Islands' rural history. Gharb lies in some of Gozo's most delightful countryside, particularly at Dbiegi, the highest hill on the Island. Also at Dbiegi is a centre for Gozitan crafts. Within the limits of Gharb is the quaint Chapel of San Dimitri. According to legend, the first chapel was built on the cliff side by a woman whose son was freed from captivity by St. Demetrius. Also nearby is the Basilica ta' Pinu, Malta's pre-eminent shrine to the Virgin Mary. It was on this spot in 1883 that a local woman heard the voice of the Virgin. |
