Like all Mediterranean countries, Malta has plenty of
restaurants, cafes, catering for both locals and tourists. The typical Maltese cafe is a friendly and relaxed place where you can stop for a quick drink or linger over a leisurely meal. |
The Maltese are a sweet toothed nation and most cafes cafes have a range of pastries, cakes biscuits and other tempting snacks.
Every cafe will serve tea (a legacy British rule) as well as coffee, and prices are very reasonable by European standards. Unlike most continental cafes, there is no price difference between standing at the bar for your drink or snack or sitting at a table inside or on the terrace. Coffee is variable ranging from tasteless instant varieties to the excellent Expresso.. Seaside cafes spring into life as soon as the tourists arrive, and for several months the
warm weather ensures a roaring trade of ice creams.

Quality of Service and tipping
In
general the Maltese are renowned for their warmth and hospitality. However, as
many waiters are part-time workers, they are often not trained and fail to
realize the pleasure and job satisfaction that they can get from giving courtesy
and service to others. Of coarse the example should come from the boss! . Thus
when receiving a good service, it is up to you to leave a tip. Tipping is
optional . In normal circumstances an additional 10% tip should be added to the
cost of a meal!
